Jig question

    I was fortunate to get to fish yesterday, unfortunately the lake conditions are terrible. Due to the rain the last month the lakes are over flowing and red muddy. I decided to fish a jig which is something I don't know much about. I caught 1 and had 6 come off and I have no idea why. The jig was a 3/8 ounce Strike King Football head and I used a Strike king River Bug on it. I was fishing it on a 7ft medium heavy rod with 15# fluorocarbon line. Anyone have any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong?
