Awful Sight

Went to the Dead Sea ( Belews Lake) to fish a bit today. Decent day, weather wise. Probably the last one for a while. Didn't catch any fish, but I was back in a small cove and noticed something on the opposite side of the cove, half in, half out of the water. It was about 50 yds away when I first saw it and I can't see for chit at a distance. It was mostly white and my first thought was a big, bloated catfish. Fished my way around the cove to it and turns out it was a deer. I'm not a hunter, so I don't know anything about deer, but this one was kind of small, no antlers. It's head was barely out of the water. I could see its legs under the water and it looked like something ( guessing turtles) had chewed all the meat off. Just bare bones. I got within about 5 ft of it, but couldn't see any type of wound, but it was on one side. It appeared to me to be a young deer, but could have been a small doe. I just wondered if maybe someone shot it by mistake and was trying to dispose of it?
