There has been a bill proposed in Maine to ban all plastics used in fishing. I sent an email to Maine's legislators voicing my displeasure. Here is what I wrote:

Dear Committee members, My family and I have vacationed for decades on Long Lake in Bridgton. It is a relaxing week that includes a great amount of time spent fishing. We spend a lot of money while in Maine, including but not limited to fishing licenses and weed stickers. Should this law pass I will not longer visit your beautiful state. I would hope that does not come to pass. That is why I am writing to urge you oppose H.P. 37/L.D.42, the act to prohibit the use of rubber lures for fishing, and instead to conduct field studies on this theoretical problem. This ban on rubber lures would negatively and significantly affect the $614,401,455 that anglers contribute each year to Maine’s economy. It would also affect the tourism that non-residents bring to the state each year. As an angler I am concerned about this ban because it is not based on sound science. I respectfully urge you to oppose this detrimental legislation, H.P. 37. Thank you,

The opening of my email addressed my personal views, the rest came from Fishing America. I received my first response. Check out what this piece of **** politician sent me:

    To whom it may concern:

You have done your cause more harm then good by sending out all these form letters as they only serve as a small agitation and nothing else, as far as I am concerned. The more you send to me the more I am apt to vote against your cause. As a matter of fact, as I look at them now you have already lost my vote.

Thank your organizer for that one.
