Food/Water Storage?

    How many of you guys actually keep an emergency food and water supply? Our faith recommends one full year of food/water/survival type items (not guns and ammo). Soaps, feminine products, plastic bags etc etc. admittedly, my family is lacking by a lot. We have plastic totes full of canned goods, bags of beans & rice & pasta & dried milk stacked to the ceiling in part of the basement. It's still not nearly enough. I do have a thought that if things ever got that bad, most people (especially those in urban areas) wouldn't be able to stay in their homes that long anyhow due the fact that those who didn't prepare will eventually find you. Also, if/when the time came to bug out, how much could you take with you? Would it all be in vain and in the end, the bad guys get your stuff anyhow? This is the debate going on on the other forum that I frequent. I know all you "Rambo" types could fight off a whole city of opportunists, but what about the rest of us? What say you?
