Got to Thinking

    about the member with the new water hook up. Did anyone else live like this when they were young.

    I lived with a great aunt during the summer. She lived in an old 1870's house without electricity, running water or plumbing.
    She cooked meals over a wood fired cast iron stove; collected wash water in a rain barrel, used an outdoor privy; had hurricane style oil lamps; pot bellied stove for the winter and used the well as a refrigerator. I would churn the cow's milk into cream and butter. She would place all perishables into a big bucket and lower it to a foot above the water in the well. I took care of the vegatable garden, chamber pots, the cows and other critters and yearly moved the outhouse. Thinking about it now it almost seems mideval but I lived a life from the 1870's in the 1950's. Wouldn't have changed it if I could.

    Oh Yeah, there were ghosts in the house and I saw them several times. Honest Injun!!
