Government corruption news coverage?

I have noticed that all 4 of our local news channels have been running a lot more story’s on or about Government corruption at a more local level.
Seems we have a lot more government officials have sex on the job, stealing money, picking up hookers and getting caught with drugs.
Is this a sign of the times or is it just the news channels trying to make a story, and have you noticed any increase in the coverage in you area?
