Government employees always get the shafted when the leaders want to show the public they are trying to make cut backs. Problem is that doing this is nothing more than a grand stand attempt to show the public they are making an effort. This will do nothing to cut the spending but will really hurt a lot of employees. Government employees are no different than anyone else. The insurance is going up and taxes are increasing. I'd like to see how they came up with the figure for the average wage for a government employee. I know many that are struggling to make end meet. :Thumbs_down:


WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama announced a pay freeze for 2 million federal employees Monday and warned the American public that the move is the first of many difficult decisions that must be made to slash the nation's mounting deficits.

"The hard truth is that getting this deficit under control is going to require some broad sacrifice, and that sacrifice must be shared by the employees of the federal government," Obama said.

The two-year freeze would apply to all civilian federal employees, including those working at the Department of Defense, but would not affect military personnel. The freeze, which requires congressional approval, is expected to save more than $5 billion in savings over two years, $28 billion over five years and more than $60 billion over 10 years, White House officials said.
