Time for me to make a decision

Well I need to make a decision. This may be a long rant but time to get it out there. As most of you know my son plays football. It is a local team. First let me tell you it is the only game in town at his age. Other counties have programs like this and have for years. Second it is a 95% black team. Not that really matters to me but here lately it seems to be a problem. There is allot of disorganization. Allot of it though is because of the size of the program. We went from 40 kids to over a 100..

Well 3 weeks ago one of the coaches was stopped in a bad side of town after avoiding a traffic stop. After being searched he was found with pot and cocaine, scales and baggies. He had enough to to appear he was selling. Of course I went to the main guy after the front page story in the news paper and ask one simple question. " I assume he is no longer part of the team" I was told OH NO!!!!!!
The very next Monday he shows up at practice. Main guy calls me by name and says I don't want him there. Of course a few things are then said. Now I am a cracker a want a be etc the typical black on white name calling.

Well that blows over and things move forward. We had our first game Saturday. On Thursday the main coach on my sons team. me and him kind of split things but I can not always be at practice says he isn't coming. No big deal got another guy that helps. Saturday morning I arrive at the meeting spot to find out we have no van, we don't have all our uniforms, main guy isn't going till later in day and other coach doesn't show. So here I go again with 25 kids all alone just me and my wife. Only problem is there is only like 6 kids there. We leave and kit to the field in Charlotte hour away. I try and get every thing set up and kids dressed etc. By this time there is 10 or so. We start to practice and prepare 15 mins before the game here comes 7 more kids. I told them to be there at 9 because we played at 11. It is 10:50. Now these kids are not starting and don't have there uniforms and it is my fault so here comes the name calling again.

Anyway we play tried to do what I could all by myself with what ended up being 25 kids. Happen to look in stands and low and behold there is the drug dealer. A little later he is down by the fence the behind the bench then on the edge of the field. Of course nothing was ever said. Was told his kid was a cheer leader blah blah blah.

Advance forward to a couple hours later and I am on the way home. Get a call from another coach. Hey you got my son"s helmet hold onto it for me. No I don't yes, yes you do. Player on older team says I took it away from him. I tried to explain no I took my son's helmet which is completlely different from any other out there. He insist I took it and proceeds to call me a liar and thief threatens me and starts with the black on white again then hangs up. I called back several times won't take my call told him was waiting for him at field to come and check what I had still no call.

Anyway today is practice and I have been thinking all weekend that I just don't want to be involved in this any more. I started just wanting my kid to have a chance to play football but as I got more involved I wanted to help these kids and try and make a difference. It is apparent I can't. There are some good kids out there that deserve a better life but I can not change where they live and who they live with. I really enjoyed this last year because it became a big part of my life but now I just don't want to be around it. I have given allot to this money time energy etc and don't want to walk away but it just isn't getting any better.

I am white and I really believe at the end of the day that is a problem for some of them. They can not stand being held to a higher standard of doing things so I am the bad guy. Anyway that is the deal . There is allot more that has went on but those our some of the high lights.
