To manage or not and other opportunities

So in the coming months there will be a couple of different positions I can put in for here in my office and Im in debate if I want to apply for one of them or not. Its a 3rd level managerial position that would oversee the two positions Im currently doing now. Ive talked with management about the position and not only do they think Id be good at the 3rd level manager, but when time came, Id be really good at the 2nd level manager. The position coming up is only a grade higher than what my current position caps out at, but opens me up for the next line supervisor. The one drawback that if I were to put in for it and get the position, Id have to give up an auxillary duty that I absolutely love doing. Would this position be good for my career, yes, do I want to go into management, I dont know.

The other position coming up is not a managerial position, but overseeing all of our facilities and handling any issues, construction, etc that comes up. This position starts at what I cap out at and ends two grades higher, but from there, there isnt alot of choice where to go and do I want to handle facilities for the next 20 yrs. The plus to it, I dont have to give up the auxillary duty, but really is the auxillary duty worth it?

What do you guys think, esp you guys that have/were GS grade experiences? The wife is pushing for me to go into management, Im just really not sure thats the route I want to take.
