When Politics Overrides Security

Today it was announced that the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's western headquarters will be moved to a ghetto area of St. Louis City, Missouri. This agency of spies and analysts is so important that Congress mandated it have identical headquarters and staffing so it's functions would continue if either DC or St. Louis were destroyed. It is the only agency with dual headquarters. At this time, the St. Louis facility is located on the grounds of the historic St. Louis Arsenal. The area cannot be protected from terrorists and had to be moved to a new location for force protection. The ghetto area of St. Louis City is the worst place to move for security of the workforce. The alternative location is at Scott Force base in Illinois. Scott is surrounded by farmland and easily protected. It would also cost less to build and protect.
Obama signed an executive order that says agencies should build facilities in urban areas to help rehabilitate inner cities. A political decision which jeopardizes our intelligence capabilities and workforce essential to the protection of our country. If you wonder why I care, I retired as Manager for Global Production at this agency.
