Worm Color

Let's get a few opinions on this.

I have a couple colors that I use almost exclusively. I know everyone has stories of how a small color change changed the bite, but I think that mostly comes down to confidence and over thinking. Droopy and myself have been having that debate. I say the major color categories are dark, light and translucent, and two worms within the same category can mostly get the same number of bites.

Droopy's primary dark color is solid black and mine is a darker red shad that Saint makes for me. Some days he catches more and other days I catch more. I think it is more of being in the right place at the right time, than it is the small color difference.

A couple weeks ago, I caught the first few and he hadn't had any bites, so he switched to my color and caught a few. That is when we started the discussion, so I put his original color on and caught a couple more. Now, I know that is not an exact experiment since other factors can also come into play, but my argument is when you believe the bite is on a certain color, you may work it a little different or pay a little more attention to what's happening.

I think the size, displacement, fall rate and action of the worm are far more important (Hunt, calm down), than the color, as long as the color is in the one category the fish are interested in. Depending on water color, I normally start off with one category (red shad, black, etc.) and if no takers switch to another (Alchi's blue sapphire, green pumpkin, etc.)

Now this only pertains to slow moving plastics, like Texas rig or Carolina rig. As I do think in faster moving baits, color becomes a major factor in reaction type bites.
