Back from LA - and I don't mean lower Alabama

So, I got back home yesterday from Los Angeles, where I'd been since Thursday for my high school BFF's wedding (he and his partner, if you know what I mean).

I learned SO much on this trip. One, if you go to CVS and buy nail polish, a 12-pack of Coke Zero, mascara, peanut M&Ms, chips & dip for ball game watching, etc., they look at you and say, "Would you like to buy a bag for 10 cents?" It was ALL I could do to not say, "No, I'll just buy a big bowl, put it all in there, and carry it out on my head." And yep, you buy a brown paper sack for 10 cents - no plastic in California, apparently.

Two, an All-American Slam at Denny's with coffee and orange juice is $15.45. Not counting the tip to the non-English-speaking server.

Three, if you pass by a homeless guy on the street, that is not a cigarette he is smoking. It's pot.

Four, nobody knows *#^%$ about college football in LA.

Finally, after 2 hours and 45 minutes sitting on the tarmac at LAX before leaving, and another 2 hour and 20 minute delay in Dallas, I've realized how much I love being at home - dust, dirty dishes, and all.

Thanks, Andrew, for meeting me in the rain at 9 p.m. last night to bring me Baxter the Wonder Dog.

And may we all stay far, FAR away from the left coast. I don't know how those people survive - no wonder they're all nuts.
