Alabama authorities have launched a manhunt for a gunman after at least 17 people were injured in a shooting at a bar in downtown Tuscaloosa.

Police say someone walked up to the Copper Top Bar and began firing inside the location, WBRC reports.

No deaths had been reported in the gunfire, which happened early Tuesday at around 1 a.m., according to The Tuscaloosa News.

But DCH Regional Medical Center said it treated all 17 that were wounded.

"As of 8 a.m., two patients have been admitted to critical care and three have been admitted to regular hospital rooms, and 12 were treated and released," a spokesman said in a statement.

Riley Dunn, a University of Alabama senior who was injured in the shooting, estimated that there were 80 to 90 people in the area at the time.

Dunn said there was one gunshot, then, about 20 seconds later, "that's when he really started firing them off" and everyone scattered.

City police Sgt. Brent Blankley told the Associated Press that no arrests had been made. Surveillance video released by police showed a man described as a suspect. He is seen from the back as he walks down a sidewalk with what appears to be a gun in one hand.

There were trails of blood in the area around the Copper Top, Justin McDaniel told the Tuscaloosa newspaper. McDaniel said he wasn't hit by the gunfire, but his shirt was stained with other people's blood.

The Copper Top is part of a row of bars and restaurants near a downtown square in an area that's home to several nightspots and is popular with students from the university. The business is about a block from Tuscaloosa City Hall.

Tuesday morning, the area was cordoned off with yellow police tape.

Tuscaloosa police have called a news conference for 10 a.m. Tuesday to release more details of the shootings.
