Early in my career I was stationed in Lebanon. It was the Paris of the Levant and the people were wealthy and happy. Then terrorism started. One day, both the Russians and the US had diplomats captured by moslem terrorists. We tried to negotiate. The Russians captured the terrorist leader's son. They sent the son's head back to the father in a box. We negotiated. The Russian diplomat was returned unharmed. Our's was found dead in a gutter with his throat cut. I learned a lesson from that. Our government didn't.
