Sh!t going up in smoke around here...

This is the Intercontinental Terminals Company (ITC) facilities located in Deer Park, Texas, about 5 miles south southeast of my office, and 7 miles from my home. It has been burning since around 10:30 Sunday morning, and is not expected to be extinguished anytime before tomorrow... if then.

For the last two days the wind has been carrying the thick, black , column of smoke, which trails for miles, and miles, varying in a southwesterly to northwesterly direction. However, sometime after noon today the wind is expected to shift to a north northwesterly direction which will bring it directly overhead of my office and my house.

Watching the news, and seeing images of the fire reminded me of the Deepwater Horizons fire a few years ago.



Something about the two events stuck in my mind, and I began to do a little research on the companies responsible for them. One of the companies involved with the Deepwater Horizons event was a Japanese company named Mitsui & Co Ltd. Mitsui reached a settlement agreement in excess of $1 Billion dollars for their culpability.

Turns out that Mitsui & Co Ltd... owns ITC.

Does anybody see a pattern emerging here?
