The laser myth put to test..........sort of.........

So I spent the week-end with my lovely bride at this big casino. I'm not much of a gambler, so I had to find a way to occupy me while she went off to the slots. The atrium at the hotel had a pond with artificial trees and weeds stocked with carp, bream, minnows, about a dozen small gators, and yes.....bass. Most were 4 lbs and under, but they had one that would go well over 6. They had bridges that criss crossed the pond so all of the visitors could watch the gators from different vantage points, but I kept looking for and watching big momma. Now this wasn't a controlled study. Only a few of the fish (bass) related to structure. Most would just sit in open water at various depths, the deepest being about 3'.

So I was watching this morning, while my lovely bride was still in bed when it dawned on me about lasers attracting fish. Me being me, curiosity won out. I went to Auto Zone and bought a cheap laser/ flashlight combo. (told the wife it was to keep in the truck:tooth:). Got back to the hotel and put the theory to test.

My results: The carp LOVED it. They chased it all along the bottom. The minnows tore up the water where the light broke at the surface. The bream would look at it for a little bit, but grew bored quick. The bass? They could care less. It had no effect on them whatsoever for the most part. One or two looked kind of surprised when I turned it on next to a tree they were near, but that was all the reaction I'd get. Most acted like it wasn't even there.

Now I know this isn't too scientific. This was fish who lived in bathtub water and I have no idea what they ate. But I did find it somewhat helpful to me. I'll never spend money on a "laser" lure.

Plus, it helped me kill time while waiting for the wife.:tooth:
