Tips for buying new reel

I'm going to start off by saying I'm not knocking any brand.

If you are looking for a new reel know your budget and how long you want to use the reel. There are many good reels on the market today. Some reels feel great in the store but it is heavy or feels funny on your rod ask to try it on a rod in the store. If you are going to fish the reel in salt water use salt washing cleaner.

If you plan on using a reel hard for 3-4 years tournaments, long days on the water, lack of maintenance most reels will last. Most manufactures make parts for 5 years and quit yes some you can find sub parts this in not always guaranteed I know Penn will sub some parts, but you may have to change multiple parts to make the sub fit. Pure Fishing lately wants to sell new and not repair reels. If you buy a Bass Pro, or an exclusive reel (Dick's Walmart) it can be difficult to find parts and the same goes for left handed reels.

Remember you must retire some reels yes they be a work horse or your favorite put on a shelf or a display case after a while you will wear a reel out.
