Lesson Learned

    I was running down the lake this week and noticed the rpms rising and the speed dropping. It got worse until I was at 4600 rpm and only 25 mph. Thinking I had spun a prop hub, I called the marina. Mechanic saiid it could be a spun hub but also gave a reason I had not heard before. If a stick or other debris gets caught between the engine and the back of the boat, it will cause "dead water". The debris will deflect the water and cause a vacumn around the prop. The prop is in a lot of air and can't dig into the water. When you clear the debris, everything is fine. This is evidently what happened to me as the rig now runs the way it should. Never had this happen or ever heard of it. Thanked my mechanic. Just passing this along.
