water pump time for the Opti

Seemed like the Opti wanted to run a little warm any time I tilted it up to run through shallow water on vacation. Grabbed a kit and pulled everything apart the other day. First thing I noticed was the rear of the upper gasket was blown out. Once everything was apart I see that the impeller plate was bowed up in the center. The bearing carrier had lifted just a little bit under the pump. :doh:



Of course that bow was doing a number on the bottom of the impeller.



According to Don Weed, the carrier was probably pushed up due to gearcase pressure. Put the carrier back down where it should be and replaced everything with an impeller kit. Seemed to work just fine yesterday on the water, but I'm going to have to keep a close eye on things.
