On days when the temp has been over 20 degrees I have been fishing for Sauger. The Kaskaskia River in Illinois, about 25 miles below St. Louis, has had abundant Sauger for the first time in recent memory. I have been catching a limit from the same hole for several weeks. Suddenly, they were gone, vamoosed or sucked into an alternate universe. I checked a mile in each direction with nary a Sauger. I'll try again in a month. In the meantime, I'll make a stew of sauger, crab, craws and clams in a tomato base. Of course, onions, carrots, peppers, Cajun spices and rice to make it authentic.
