When I am building a rockpile or find structure built by another angler, I record the coordinates and depth of the structure. I also make sure I record the lake level for that day. Recording the lake level is important because many bodies of water experience droughts, draw downs, etc. through the year. Once you know the depth of the bait and the current lake level, you can go through your notes to find structure at the correct depth even if the lake level has significantly risen or fallen since you recorded the position and data. A hump that topped out five ft. below the surface in spring may now be greatly different with a drought or flooding. So, record the lake level as you find or build structure and know the lake level when you go out to fish.
