What many don't understand about renewable energy

Most think renewables are almost free, they come from the wind and sun. But that's a false illusion. As this article from Forbes outlines very well, the more dependent you become on wind and solar, the higher your electricity bill goes , even if the cost of installing wind and solar, falls greatly

Its because of the intermittency of wind and solar. They can't match demand with supply consistently. They still depend upon some other form of generation that can be brought on line quickly.

I've thrown this at people who are advocating renewables because of global warming. And they don't want to accept it, even though, the man who is considered to be the " Father of Global Warming " , Dr James Hansen , former head of NASA , is saying the same thing. He's trying to tell these environmentalists that we will never get our electricity from wind/solar and the only solution to reducing CO2 is building nuclear.

Even when I show them YouTube vids of Hansen trying to explain how wind/solar will never be more than 30% of our electric generation, they refuse to accept it. Hansen began preaching about CO2 in 1989, he appeared before Congress , at that time.
